Quando ho sentito parlare di Lilas Exquis e dell'ispirazione che la direttrice artistica Rania Barakat Naim ha suggerito al profumiere Luca Maffei, mi è subito venuta in mente Bettina Graziani in un abito di raso lilla mentre posa a favor di camera col suo bel nasino per aria. Lontano dai soliti fioriti, questo soliflore lilla iperrealistico rende vivida l'immagine dei grappoli di fiori molli di pioggia e fa pensare alla joie de vivre francese. Sostenuto dalle sfumature agresti e cuoiate delle foglie di violetta, non mi sorprenderebbe sentirlo anche indossato dai dandy a caccia di una colonia floreale per l'estate.

When I learned first about Lilas Exquis and the inspiration art director Rania Barakat Naim gave to perfumer Luca Maffei, I couldn’t help but thinking to Bettina Graziani in a lilac satin dress posing to the camera with her nose up in the air. Out of the usual flowers, this hyper-realistic lilac soliflore vividly renders blossoms drenched in raindrops and French joie de vivre. Empowered by outdoorsy and leathery facets of violet leaves, I wouldn’t be surprised to smell it also on dandies as a floral summer cologne.

L'incarnato dei fiori bianchi e la pelle più raffinata hanno entrambi un che di umano. Scoprire che una tuberosa dimenticata in una borsa di pelle rilascia ancora una scia di cuoio narcotico dopo un viaggio esotico in Africa suona come l'amore più sconcio della profumeria. Tutto questo è Adjatay (che significa Principe nelle lingue del Camerun) l'ultima fragranza sviluppata dal direttore creativo di The Different Company Luc Gabriel e dal profumiere Alexandra Monet di Drom Fragrances.

The Different Company
The flesh of white flowers and the finest leather definitely possess something human. Discovering a tuberose forgotten in a leather bag still releases its cuir narcotique trail after an exotic trip to Africa sounds like a dirty love affair in perfumery. That's everything about Adjatay (meaning Prince in Cameroon's languages) the latest beautiful fragrance developed by The Different Company creative director Luc Gabriel and Drom Fragrances perfumer Alexandra Monet.

Fragranze 11 - See you in Florence!

C'è chi si sta godendo le vacanze e chi ancora non è partito ma lo farà mentre gli altri torneranno. C'è poi chi come me è già rientrato dalle vacanze ed è carico per un nuovo anno pieno di novità. Per un perfumista impossibile non appuntarsi al calendario Pitti Fragranze, che quest'anno sarà il 13-15 settembre, per scoprire cosa ci spruzzeremo di nuovo.

Questa undicesima edizione vede sbarcare a Firenze parecchie novità a partire dai mistici Liquides Imaginaires di Philippe Di Méo che avevo sentito a Parigi l'anno scorso. Anche Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena verrà ufficialmente lanciato a Pitti assieme a tante altre novità.
Infine Fragranze conferma il suo supporto alla cultura olfattiva con svariati ospiti ed eventi fra cui l'intervista di Chandler Burr a Shahzad Haider durante il focus sul Middle East con Fragrance Foundation Arabiaormai.
Come al solito io ci sarò per farvi il resoconto delle cose più stuzzicanti e spero di incontrarvi fra gli stand per scambiare quattro chiacchiere e magari sniffare assieme delle belle creazioni! A presto!

Someone is enjoying holidays, someone else hasn't left yet but is going to do it while others come back. Again someone else like me is already back from vacations and now is ready for a new year full of news to come. For a perfumista is impossible to miss an event like Pitti Fragranze this year scheduled on september 13-15, to discover what's new to spray on.

A lot of news are going to land to Florence during this eleventh edition, starting with the mystical Philippe Di Méo's Liquides Imaginaires I tried in Paris the last year. Also Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena official launch will take place at Pitti together with many many more new launches to come.
Finally Fragranze confirms his support to olfactory culture with several guests and events among which Chandler Burr will be interviewing Shahzad Haider during the focus on Middle East with the Fragrance Foundation Arabiaormai.
As usual I'll be there to report about the most exciting things. I hope we can meet through the booths for some chitchat and maybe have the chance to sniff beautiful creations together! See you soon!

Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena

Il mio incontro fortuito con l'ultima creazione di Aedes de Venustas è stato durante i giorni di Esxence ma ho promesso di non parlarne fino a che non sarebbe stato ufficialmente lanciato sul mercato. Da tempo si vociferava di questa fragranza e in particolare sul fatto che Ralf Schwieger sarebbe stato il naso. Amando diverse sue creazioni come Eau des Merveilles (Hermès), Lipstic Rose (Malle) e Philippine Houseboy (Etat Libre d'Orange), ero curioso di sapere come avrebbe interpretato l'iris, materia che adoro e che offre pietre di paragone magistrali come Iris Gris di Vincent Roubert e No. 19 di Henri Robert. Così alla prima occasione non ho resistito alla tentazione di provarlo su pelle. Ora che è in uscita in Italia in questi giorni, finalmente posso raccontarvi le impressioni che ho annotato sul mio tacquino.

Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena

I stepped by chance into the last Aedes de Venustas creation during the days of Esxence but I promised I wouldn't have written about it till the official launch on the market. Since some time there was a buzz about this fragrance and in particular about Ralf Schwieger being the nose behind it. Since I like some of his creations like Eau des Merveilles (Hermès), Lipstic Rose (Malle) and Philippine Houseboy (Etat Libre d'Orange), I was looking forward to discover how he would have worked with iris, a raw material I adore and that offers quite a few masterpieces like Vincent Roubert's Iris Gris and Henri Robert's No. 19 as references. So as soon as I had the chance, I couldn't help but trying it on skin. Now that's launching in Italy these days, I can finally disclose the impressions I wrote down in my notepad.

Esxence 2013: pioggia di stelle (3)

La mia camminata fra le stelle di Esxence riparte stavolta da tre stelle, quelle di Acampora che presenta Volubilis. La fragranza che prende il nome da un'antica città romana in Marocco, è l'ottava essenza (trascurando le collaborazioni di Bianco e Nero) che si aggiunge alle classiche essenze in olio create sul finire degli anni '70 che hanno fatto la fortuna di Bruno Acampora. Chapeau a Brunello Acampora che ha scelto di rimanere fedele alla tradizione del padre lanciando prima di tutto Volubilis in olio, un azzardo forse di questi tempi, ma anche un segno forte di chi la tradizione non deve inventarsela e la coltiva con passione da sempre.

La fragranza è un bel floreale aromatico che coglie la rosa di maggio del Marocco e la immerge nella luce mattutina di un bouquet verde. Bergamotto e pepe rosa illuminano le note di testa con un tocco frizzantino e sapido che fa strada alla freschezza pungente della menta piperita, vera protagonista della fragranza assieme alla rosa. Il cuore floreale emerge bagnato di rugiada  brillante prima per farsi più mielato e sensuale poi. Un soffio di patchouli ambrato e muschi fondono questa linfa oleosa sulla pelle lasciando un'aura disinvolta e malandrina in pieno stile Acampora. Da godersi sulla pelle abbronzata perché scommetto che darà il meglio di se con la bella stagione.

Esxence 2013: stars rain (3)

My walk through the stars of Esxence starts again from three stars, the Acampora ones printed on Volubilis. The fragrance that takes its name from an ancient roman town in Morocco is the eighth essence (aside the co-branded Bianco and Nero) joining the classic scented oils launched at the end of the '70s that made Bruno Acampora famous. Chapeau to Brunello Acampora that chose to stay true to his father's heritage launching Volubilis in oil formulation: maybe a risk in these times but also a strong statement from who doesn't need to invent a heritage because he nourishes it with passion since ever.

The fragrance is a beautiful aromatic floral taking May rose from Morocco to plunge it in the morning light of a green bouquet. Bergamot and pink pepper light up the topnotes with a sparkling salty touch giving way to the pungent freshness of peppermint, that along with rose is the main theme of the perfume. The floral heart emerges at first covered in shining dew to warm up and turn more honeyed and sensual later. A whiff of ambery patchouli and musks melts like oily sap on the skin leaving a natural, roguish aura in perfect Acampora style. To be enjoyed on tanned skin as I guess it will give its best during the warm season.

Highlight da Esxence 2012 (3)

Continuando la rassegna dei must sniff di questa edizione, col suo flacone melanzana e oro accattivante, Aedes de Venustas è certamente uno dei nomi da ricordare. Il celebre concept store americano infatti ha deciso di osare in tutti i sensi per la sua fragranza simbolo lasciando a Bertrand Duchaufour piena libertà creativa. Come ha confessato anche nelle fasi di realizzazione a Denyse Beaulieu di Grain de Musc, era da tempo che Bertrand sognava di spingersi in una direzione insolita perfino per lui. Il risultato è stupefacente come solo un maestro può fare. Croccante come un gambo di rabarbaro appena spezzato, il jus ha un'architettura corroborante sorretta da un pilastro verde che l'attraversa da cima a fondo, rivestito di riflessi cangianti e ben posato su una base neochypre elegantissima.

Going on with the review of the must sniff seen during this edition, with its simply captivating gold-aubergine flacon, Aedes de Venustas is for sure a name to remember. In fact the renowned american concept store decided to dare in every sense with its signature fragrance giving Bertrand Duchaufour complete creative freedom. As he confessed also during the making of to Denyse Beaulieu of Grain de Musc, Bertrand dreamed since longtime to push himself into a creative direction unusual even for him. The outcome is outstanding just like only a master can do it. As crisp as a just crushed rhubarb stem, the juice has a corroborating architecture empowered by a green pillar going top to bottom through it, dressed in iridescent reflections and firmly put on a very elegant neochypre basement.
