I Maestri del Profumo - The Masters of Perfume

Esistono molti modi di vedere l'arte a seconda delle sfaccettature che di essa si vogliono mettere in luce. Ad esempio si pùò vedere una collezione privata, guardare i capolavori e dedurre il gusto ed il pensiero del collezionista. Oppure visitare una mostra relativa ad un genere particolare di pittura ed ammirare come diversi artisti hanno approcciato il tema.
Ancora, si può visitare una rassegna monografica per autore per capire i suoi tratti distintivi, la sua tecnica, il suo percorso stilistico e, se il profumo è arte e sempre più gente se ne rende conto apprezzandolo, allora è possibile rileggerlo seguendo gli stessi percorsi. Ecco perchè da tempo mi stuzzica l'idea di una serie di post sui grandi nasi del passato, nomi spesso sconosciuti ai più se non ai veri appassionati, nomi che stanno all'arte del profumo come quelli di Leonardo o Michelangelo stanno alla Pittura. L'unica differenza è che le opere dei grandi pittori le vediamo fin da bambini sui libri di scuola, a volte ci insegnano perfino alcuni aneddoti della loro vita, mentre dei grandi nasi non ci parla nessuno. Questo in parte succede perchè fino a pochi anni fa il naso era un artista dietro le quinte il cui nome era spesso non dichiarato dall'industria profumiera per non offuscare il brand del prodotto.
Nei prossimi mesi pubblicherò delle piccole monografie di alcuni nasi che hanno dato un'impronta particolare all'arte più volatile che esista, nomi come Ernest Beaux, i Guerlain, Jean Carles, Germaine Cellier, Edmond Roudnitska solo per citarne alcuni. A completare i ritratti di questi Maestri del Profumo cercherò di aggiungere qualche pennellata di profumo circa alcune delle loro creazioni più iconiche che bisognerebbe sentire almeno una volta nella vita, quindi non perdetevele!

There are several ways to enjoy art according to the facets of it you want to highlight. For example you can go to see a private collection, look at the masterpieces and get an idea about the collector's taste and thought. Nevertheless you can visit an exibition about a particular gender of paintings and admire how different painters approached the theme.
Again you can see a single author monographic show to understand his distinctive stroke, his tecnique, his stylistic path, and if perfume is an art and more and more people get to understand and appreciate it, then it's possible to think about it following the same lines. That's why since some time I'd like to start a serie of posts on the great noses from the past, names passionate people know very well but often unknown to the most, names that are to perfumery as Leonardo or Michelangelo are to painting. The only difference is that we are used to see works of these great painters since our childhood in schoolbooks, sometimes they even tell us funny stories about their lives, while nobody tells us nothing about the great noses. That's partially due to the fact that till few years ago the perfumer was an artist behind the curtains whose name was often hidden by the perfume industry to prevent them to dim the product brand.
During the next months I will posts small monographies about some of the noses that gave their particular mark to the most volatile of arts, names like Ernest Beaux, the Guerlains, Jean Carles, Germaine Cellier, Edmond Roudnitska just to name a few. To complete the portrait of these Masters of Perfume I'll try to add some telling stroke of perfume about their most iconic creations one should smell at least one in a lifetime so stay tuned!
