Si è da poco conclusa l'edizione 2017 di OSA! Outsider Scents Award e le emozioni sono ancora intense come la fragranza vincitrice: HUMUS, creata da Michele Bianchi.
In tema di quest'anno, in comune con la VIII edizione di Smell Festival su cui i partecipanti sono stati chiamati a cimentarsi è quello delle "radici" e ciascun finalista ha dato la sua personalissima interpretazione.
Come ha ben descritto Francesca Faruolo: “Chi ha familiarità con gli odori ha forti le radici: principio sotterraneo di sviluppo e nutrimento di ogni cosa”. Ed è proprio la creatività la radice che ha alimentato e fatto crescere il desiderio di questi outsider di formarsi, affondare la propria conoscenza nelle materie prime della profumeria ed osare cogliendo il frutto del loro percorso. Scopriamo allora il vincitore. Nel prossimo post parleremo anche degli altri finalisti. Incontrandoli a Bologna ho rivolto a tutti alcune domande per conoscerli meglio.

The 2017 edition of OSA! Outsider Scents Award has just ended and emotions still flow intense like the winning fragrance: HUMUS, composed by Michele Bianchi.
This year's theme, the same for the Smell Festival 8th edition with which have dealed the participants is "roots" and each finalist has given his own personal interpretation to it.
As well described by Francesca Faruolo: “Who is familiar with smells has strong roots: undergoing principle of development and nourishment of everything”. And it's creativity the root that fed and developed the desire of these outsiders to train themselves, digging into the knowledge of raw materials of perfumery to dare and harvest the fruit of this path. Let's discover the winner then. In the next post we will talk about the other finalists: meeting them in Bologna I asked them a few questions to learn more about them.

L'ultima Diva: Bal à Versailles (1962)

Pensate allo stupore del barocco e avrete un'idea di quello che provo per Bal à Versailles: così come l'occhio dello spettatore si perde di fronte all'opulenza di Rubens, il naso è investito dallo sfarzo di mille sfumature. Anche barocco come sinonimo di bizzarro gli calza a pennello come si può dedurre scorrendo i commenti online che vanno da sensuale e animale fino a viziozo e indecente per chi è cresciuto a suon di muschi bianchi. Nonostante la formula originale sia stata ampiamente riformulata, la zampata di Bal à Versailles riesce ancora a distinguersi tra la modernità sbiadita che prevale sugli scaffali oggi.

Non è difficile immaginare che la sua scia teatrale possa essere l'aura di una grande Diva come Valentina Cortese, un complemento al suo stile unico e al suo favoloso guardaroba firmato da Capucci, Dior, Ferré, Galante e Mila Schön. Camminando fra i suoi abiti più belli esposti fino a settimana scorsa a Palazzo Morando, ho scoperto che è il profumo che ancora oggi indossa tutti i giorni. Così a casa mi son messo poche gocce del mio parfum de toilette degli anni '70 per raccontarvi la sua magia.

The last Diva: Bal à Versailles (1962)

Think of the astonishment of baroque art and you'll have an idea of what to me is Bal à Versailles: the same way one's eye can get lost in the opulence of Rubens, the nose is run over by thousand magnificent facets. Also baroque as synonime of odd fits it perfectly as you can realize just reading the comments online describing it as sensual and animalic or even kinky and nasty for who's grown breathing white musks only. Despite the original formula has been widely reformulated, Bal à Versailles footprint still stands out of the crowd of the bleached modernity ruling the shelves nowadays.

It's not difficult to figure out its teatrical sillage as the aura of a great Diva like Valentina Cortese, a complement to her unique style and her fabulous outfits from Capucci, Dior, Galante, Ferré and Mila Schön. Walking through her beautiful dresses on show till the last week at Palazzo Morando, I found out it's the perfume she still wears everyday. So I got back home and dabbed few drops of my '70s vintage parfum de toilette to describe you its magic.
