La prima volta che ho visto nel 2015 la commedia drammatica australiana "The Dressmaker", nella mia testa l'ho subito associata ad un profumo. Il film in sé non è un capolavoro ma racconta la storia di una vendetta davvero singolare e mentre la protagonista Tilly Dunnage (Kate Winslet) sfoggia un guardaroba impeccabile creato dalla costumista premio Oscar Margot Wilson per rievocare il meglio del New Look di Balenciaga, Balmain, Dior e Fath, non si può fare a meno di immaginarla avvolta in una scia di Jolie Madame mentre trascina la sua macchina da cucire per la cittadina polverosa.

When I first saw the 2015 Australian revenge comedy-drama "The Dressmaker", I immediately got a scent association popping to my mind. The film itself is not a masterpiece, but it is one of a kind and while the main character Tilly Dunnage (Kate Winslet) unfolds a pitch-percect wardrobe from the award-winning costume designer Margot Wilson that quotes the best New Look outfits from Balenciaga, Balmain, Dior and Fath, you can't help but thinking of her leaving trails of Jolie Madame while she carries her sewing machine across the dusty hometown.

Nel 1944 inaugura una storica collezione ispirata ai corsari e alle loro avventure nei mari lontani accompagnata dal lancio di Bandit, uno chypre cuoiato dalla sensualità crudele. Per evocare l'odore pericoloso di pellame e scorribande Germaine oserà l'1% d’iso-butyl-quinoleina, una molecola fino ad allora dosata con timore per la sua irruenza.

The genius of Germaine Cellier can only be measured within the frame of her larger-than-life, remarkable creations.
The crucial event was meeting Robert Piguet, an ex-modelist trained at Paul Poiret's atelier who after WWII enstablished his own fashion house. His style is lively, full of drive and desire for reward after the dark years of the war.

In 1944 he debuted with a mythical collection inspired by buccaneers and their adventures by faraway seas that was paired by the launch of Bandit, a leathery chypre bearing a brutal sensuality. To evoke the dangerous smell of leather and forays Germaine dares to use 1% of iso-butyl-quinoleine, a molecule doused till then with fear for its violence.

La selezione di quest'anno delle fragranze con cui giocare si apre inevitabilmente influenzata dai miei incontri sulla storia della profumeria ed in particolare come molti hanno azzeccato, siamo davanti ad un best-seller anni '80: Paris di Yves Saint Laurent in versione eau de toilette vintage. La leggenda vuole che Yves Saint Laurent avesse dato come unico briefing a Sophia Grojsman un orologio con un cinturino rosa. Come avete ben descritto, ispirata da Après l'Ondée Sophia lo ha tradotto in un jus femminile (colori chiari, fantasie floreali) e vivace (La vie en rose, Vivaldi), romantico (Sissi, Audrey Hepburn, l'operetta) ma con un tocco contemporaneo malizioso (Brigitte Bardot, pizzi e trasparenze) che nei decenni è diventato un classico associato all'espressione più raffinata dell'eleganza anni '80.

This year's selection of fragrances to play with inevitably opens under the influence of my conferences about perfume history and in particular as many of you guessed right, we're in front of an '80s best-seller: Paris by Yves Saint Laurent here in vintage eau de toilette concentration. Legend tells that Yves Saint Laurent just gave Sophia Grojsman as briefing a watch with a pink strap. As all of you widely described, inspired by Après l'Ondée she translated this into a feminine (pale colours, floral prints) and lively (Vivaldi, La vie en rose) juice full of romance (Sissi, Audrey Hepburn, Lehar) yet with a contemporary naughty twist (Brigitte Bardot, lace and sheer fabrics) that through the decades has gained his place among the classics as the most refined expression of the '80s showy elegance.
