Blind Sniff Roulette: le fialette sono in viaggio

Dopo aver ricevuto gli indirizzi di tutti e confezionato le fialette misteriose le ho affidate nelle mani degli aiutanti di Babbo Natale che le faranno partire domattina all'alba per arrivare entro i primi giorni dell'anno. Avrete tempo poi tutta la prima settimana di gennaio per godervi le tre fragranze e rispondere alle domande partendo dalla #1 che sarà la prima ad essere pubblicata.

Le domande della roulette a cui dovrete rispondere dando anche una motivazione legata al profumo, alle suggestioni che vi ispira, alle note etc sono le seguenti:

• se fosse un colore?
• se fosse un animale?
• se fosse musica?
• se fosse un luogo?
• se fosse un capo d'abbigliamento?
• se fosse un film/libro?
• se fosse un personaggio (storico, pubblico,...)?

Lo scopo del gioco non è ovviamente quello di indovinare di che fragranze si tratta ma capire attraverso paralleli olfattivi quali sensazioni trasmette, cosa racconta e qual'è il linguaggio compositivo che il suo autore ha usato magari riconoscendo qualche nota.

Under my Christmas tree there's also a beautiful gift: three intense months, always in a hurry but full of enthusiasm also thanks to everybody who shared with me this passion and my desire to write about it. Comme des Garcons Serie1: Leaves TEA

Con le giornate polari e una brina che non vedevo da anni a Milano, la prima cosa che mi ritrovo a fare rincasando è una tazza di thè bollente: è l'unica cosa che mi scaldi davvero.
Varietà di thè ne esistono molte e ciascuna con un aroma caratteristico su cui ci sarebbe da dire parecchio. Quello che preferisco su tutti è il Darjeeling, un tipo di thè nero indiano coltivato alle pendici dell'Himalaia il cui clima con escursioni termiche gli conferisce un aroma intenso con sfumature tanniniche e floreali e punte di tostatura molto caratteristiche. Così mi piace, quasi senza zucchero.

É facile allora capire perchè con l'arrivo di Eau parfumé au thé vèrt (1993) di Jean-Claude Ellena per Bulgari e del seguito di miriadi di fragranze a base di thè io abbia storto il naso annusandole. Alcune volevano riprendere l'odore di un the verde acidulato dal limone, altre lo abbinavano ad una nota zuccherina o mielata per renderlo più confortevole. In ogni caso trovavo il risultato deludente.
Le peggiori poi trasformavano la bevanda in un vero e proprio thè coi pasticcini fino al limite del gourmand più sdolcinato e ammiccante ed è per questi motivi che a lungo ho evitato queste fragranze come la peste. Spiacente ma non fanno proprio per me.
Fortunatamente un giorno una commessa fu così abile da convincermi a provare un profumo al thè usando le parole magiche "Lei ha presente i profumi al thè? Ecco, questo è tutto l'opposto!". Così ho scoperto l'unica fragranza al thè che mi piaccia, Serie 1: Leaves TEA creata da Sophie Labbe (Givenchy Organza, Guerlain Eau de cologne du 68, Romeo Gigli G Gigli...) per Comme des Garcons nel 2000.

During the polar days with a hoarfrost I didn't see since some years ago in Milan, the first thing I happen to make just coming back home is a smoking tea cup: it's the only thing that really warms me.
There's a lot of tea qualities and each one has a characteristic aroma which could be widely discussed. The one I like above all is the Darjeeling, a kind of black indian tea grown at the feet of Himalaya which climate with thermal excursions confer to it an intense aroma with tanninic and floral hints and toasted spikes very typical. That's the way I like it, almost without sugar.

It's easy then to understand why when Jean-Claude Ellena's Eau parfumé au thé vèrt (1993) arrived together with all the plethora of the other tea based fragrances I turned up my nose smelling them. Some pretended to recreate the smell of a green tea slightly refreshed by lemon, other coupled it to a sugary or honeyed note to make it more snuggling. In any case I found the result disappointing.
Moreover the worst ones morphed the drink in a pure tea with pastries reaching to the sickeningly sweet and winking gourmand and that's why I avoided these fragrances for long time like a plague.

Fortunately one day a sales assistant was so smart to convince me to try a tea themed perfume saying the magic words "Do you have in mind tea perfumes? Well, this is all the opposite!". So I discovered the only tea based fragrance I like, Serie 1: Leaves TEA created by Sophie Labbe (Givenchy Organza, Guerlain Eau de cologne du 68, Romeo Gigli G Gigli...) for Comme des Garcons in 2000.

Blind Sniff Roulette! Vi va di giocare? Would you like to play?

Adoro gli indovinelli e i giochi di arguzia e mi piacciono anche i blind sniff. Spesso tra amici giochiamo a sentire le impressioni che si hanno sniffando quancosa alla cieca. Quindi volevo proporvi un bel gioco che mi è venuto in mente, un blind sniff ma un po' particolare.
Avete presente cosa sia la roulette cinese? Un giocatore pensa ad un personaggio ad esempio e gli altri giocatori devono indovinare di chi si tratta solo tramite domande del tipo "Se fosse un colore?".

Prendendo spunto da questo gioco ho ideato una Blind Sniff Roulette, ovvero una roulette cinese al contrario dove i partecipanti riceveranno tre fialette misteriose contrassegnate da un numero. Poi svelerò una lista di sette domande "Se fosse..." a cui dovranno rispondere come se io non sapessi di che profumo si tratta. Dovrete spiegare motivando la risposta in base alle note, all'evoluzione o comunque a qualsiasi impressione e idea il profumo vi abbia suggerito. Ne uscirà così una recensione insolita e divertente di sinestesie con il mondo dell'olfatto.
Avrete una settimana di tempo per provarle e rispondere ai sette "Se fosse" che poi posterò qui svelando il nome delle fragranze. Naturalmente chi se la sente è libero anche di tentare di indovinarle anche se non è lo scopo del gioco che invece come ho detto è quello ti lasciarsi andare e vedere quali associazioni curiose ci suggeriscono le fragranze.
Partecipare è facile rispondendo a questo post. Io poi sorteggerò cinque fortunati partecipanti che comunicherò la vigilia di Natale.


I love riddles and puzzle games and I also like blind sniffs. I often play with friends to see the impressions coming out in blind sniffs. So I'd like to propose you a nice game that came to my mind, a kind of particular blind sniff.
Do you have in mind what's a chinese roulette? A player thinks to a parsonality for example and other players have to guess who's him just making questions like "If it'd be a colour what it would be?".
Taking inspiration from this game I thought about a Blind Sniff Roulette, in other words a reverse chinese roulette where participants will receive three mysterious vials tagged with a number. Then I will unveil a list of seven questions "If it'd be..." to answer as I wouldn't now anything about the scents. You will have to explain the reasons of your replies basing on the notes, the evolution and anyway on every impression and idea the fragrance suggested you. The result will be an unusual and funny review made by synaestesia with the olfactory world.
You will have a week to try the scents and reply to the seven "If it'd be" that I later will post here disclosing the name of the fragrances. Of course who wants is free to guess them also but it's not the goal of the game that instead is to let yourself express and see what kind of curious associations fragrances conjure up.
Participating is easy, just reply to this post. Then I will choose by lot the five lucky participants that I will reveal on Christmas Eve.
