Blind Sniff Roulette #3: Lalique de Lalique edp

Ogni edizione della Blind Sniff Roulette ha un filo conduttore che lega le tre fragranze misteriose. Se il 2012 era sulle spezie e il 2013 sull'iris, stavolta ho scelto di concentrarmi sulla firma olfattiva di un profumiere così ho preso una creatrice di fragranze di cui non ho mai scritto prima: Sophia Grojsman.

Fuggita giovanissima dalla Bielorussia nel dopoguerra, si stabilisce in Polonia dove si laurea in chimica per poi emigrare in US a caccia di fortuna. Bussa alle porte di IFF dove la accoglie un'altra donna, grande creatrice di fragranze italoamericana, Joe Catapano che le fa da mentore. Da allora il resto è una storia fatta di successi fra cui la fragranza del 1992 che avete sniffato nel terzo round, Lalique de Lalique nella versione eau de parfum attuale. E' un floreale gioioso con echi anni '80 che contrappone gli aspetti più polposi dell'osmanthus alla freschezza di mughetto e violetta. Il fondo è quello tipico di Sophia con quella scia muschiata, polverosa e dolce che è la sua firma olfattiva.

Blind Sniff Roulette #3: Lalique by Lalique edp

Each edition of the Blind Sniff Roulette has a leitmotif connecting the three mystery fragrances. Whether 2012 was about spices and 2013 was about iris, this time I chose to focus on the olfactory signature of a perfumer so I went for a fragrance creator I never wrote about before: Sophia Grojsman.

Escaped very yong from Belaruss after the WWII, she settled in Poland where she gradueted in chemistry and later moved to US in search of fortune. Knoking at the doors of IFF, she met another woman, a great italo-american fragrance composer, Joe Catapano who mentored her. Since then, the rest is a story made of successes including the 1992 perfume you smelled for the third round, Lalique de Lalique in the current eau de parfum version. It's a joyful floral with '80s echos juxtapposing the puply facets of osmanthus to the freshness of lily of the valley and violets. The base is typically Sophia featuring the musky, powdery sweet trail that's her signature.

Sperando che il vostro 2015 sia iniziato in modo scoppiettante e pieno di movimento, su queste pagine è ormai tradizione inizi giocando. Dopo aver ricevuto gli indirizzi dei partecipanti e confezionato le fialette misteriose, le ho spedite nella speranza che vi verranno recapitate a breve. Così avrete il tempo di godervi le fragranze e di inviarmi le vostre risposte alle domande partendo dalla #1 entro l'ultima settimana di gennaio così da pubblicarle. Da li avrete poi una settimana di tempo per ciascuna delle altre.
Vi ricordo le domande della roulette a cui dovrete rispondere dando anche una motivazione legata al profumo, alle suggestioni che vi ispira, alle note, etc:

• se fosse un colore?
• se fosse un animale?
• se fosse musica?
• se fosse un luogo?
• se fosse un capo d'abbigliamento?
• se fosse un film/libro?
• se fosse un personaggio (storico, pubblico,...)?

Lo scopo del gioco non è ovviamente quello di indovinare di che fragranze si tratta ma capire attraverso paralleli olfattivi quali sensazioni trasmette, cosa racconta e qual'è il linguaggio compositivo che il suo autore ha usato magari riconoscendo la famiglia olfattiva o alcune note.

Hoping your 2015 started with sparkle and lots of news, on these pages it is tradition to start it with a game. Right after receiving everybody's address and packing the mystery vials, I shipped them hoping they'll be delivered soon. So you'll have time to enjoy the fragrances and send me the replies to the questions starting from #1 within the last week of January so I will be able to post them. Then you'll have a week for each one of the other vials.
Let me remind you the questions of the roulette you have to answer giving also an explanation based on the scent, the suggestions it gives you, the notes etc:

• if it would be a colour?
• if it would be an animal?
• if it would be music?
• if it would be a place?
• if it would be a cloth?
• if it would be a movie/book?
• if it would be a personality (storical, pubblic,...)?

The goal of the game obviously is not to guess the names of the fragrances but to understand through olfactory parallelisms the sensations it gives, what it wants to speak about, which composing language its creator used maybe recognizing the olfactory family or some notes.
