Luberon di Maria Candida Gentile (2012)

La settimana scorsa ho avuto la fortuna di essere a Carovigno per Smell Festival Estate e di passare un po' di tempo con Maria Candida Gentile, ascoltarla parlare del suo immaginario creativo. Per lei il viaggio è una dimensione intensa dove la mente si imprime di odori come un diario di bordo: "Sono arrivata in macchina in Puglia carica dell'odore del fieno, della macchia. E' già come immaginare un profumo".
Poi ho avuto il piacere di risentire alcune sue creazioni fra cui Luberon, una bella lavanda frutto di un viaggio nel sud della Francia. La lavanda spesso non è il mio genere, salvo alcune eccezioni notevoli. Ciò che sento qui è molto affascinante e mi ha riportato subito alla mente Amori e Incantesimi, la famosa novella di Alice Hoffman, e poi la recensione che scrissi quattro anni fa per The Perfume Magazine. Ora poi è tempo di raccolta della lavanda, quindi ho pensato di riproporre qui un estratto.

Last week I was so lucky to be in Carovigno for Smell Festival Estate and to spend some time talking to Maria Candida Gentile about her creative world. Travelling is an intense dimension to her where smells get impressed in mind like a travel diary: "I came to Puglia by car, loaded by the smell of hay, of the garrigue. It's already like imagining a perfume".
Then I also had the chance to smell again some of her creations among which Luberon, a beautiful lavender she imagined while travelling in South France. Lavender is rarely my cup of tea, but I have some pretty noteworthy exceptions. What I smell here is bewitching and instantly took my memory back to Practical Magic, the popular novel by Alice Hoffman, and to the review I wrote four years ago for The Perfume Magazine. Moreover now it's lavender harvest time so let me repost an excerpt here.

Proprio a Esxence ho avuto l'occasione di incontrare Raphaella Barkley con Mark David Boberick che dirigono questa giovane rivista online nata dallo storico magazine Sniffapalooza dove potete trovare interviste, recensioni di profumi commerciali, di nicchia e vintage, articoli di cultura e molto altro. Ho avuto modo di chiacchierare e condividere con Raphaella idee riguardo alla profumeria artistica e di sniffare diverse cose interessanti. C'è subito stato feeling e mi ha fatto così piacere quando mi ha chiesto di contribuire alla rivista che non ho saputo dire di no di fronte all'occasione di tornare a confrontarmi con la cultura olfattiva a livello internazionale.
Quando ti trovi di fronte passione e stima, non puoi fare a meno di condividere l'entusiasmo. Così scoprendo che Raphaella adora Baghari di Robert Piguet ho pensato fosse la persona giusta per apprezzare l'estratto vintage degli anni '50 che posseggo. Right at Esxence I had the chance to meet Raphaella Barkley and Mark David Boberick that lead this new online magazine born from the former Sniffapalooza magazine where you can find inteviews, reviews of commercial, niche as well as vintage perfumes, posts about olfactory culture and much more. I had the opportunity to share with Raphaella nice talks and ideas about artistic perfumery and anso for sniffing around together some interesting juices. That's been such a feeling that I've been such a pleasure when she asked me to contribute for them that I couldn't say no as it's a good chance to get back sharing olfactory culture in an international environment I think.
When you feel the passion and estime of a nice person you can't help but sharing the fun. So when I discovered Raphaella loves Robert Piguet's Baghari, I thought it was good to let her smell my '50s vintage extrait de parfum.
