Adjiumi Awards 2015

Si è appena concluso il 2015 mentre i webzine stranieri si scatenano fra classifiche sul meglio e sul peggio. In Italia il riconoscimento più ambito è sicuramente quello degli Adjiumi Awards che i molti appassionati del Forum di Adjiumi assegnano dal 2014. A sorpresa, oggi il fondatore Cristian Cavagna ha svelato in anticipo i vincitori delle varie categorie ed i premi speciali nati dalle segnalazioni che il capo, come lo chiamano affettuosamente gli adjiumini, ha raccolto negli ultimi mesi assieme alle nomination.
Un grande ringraziamento va a Cristian e a tutti i partecipanti del forum per aver votato La Gardenia nell'Occhiello come miglior blog del 2015. Da cinque anni riempie le mie serate (e a volte anche i weekend) e nel tempo ha preso corpo anche su social media come Facebook, Twitter e Instagram, quindi sono molto grato per questo riconoscimento. Se poi ti ritrovi in lizza beato fra donne come Marika Vecchiattini di Bergamotto e Benzoino, Marina Donato di BeautyMarinaD, Elena Porcelli di Eau de Purcel, Claudia Umeton di Parfums et Beauté Sur Les Pointes e Grace di The Beauty Cove, l'onore è ancora maggiore!

Ulteriore soddisfazione è stata scoprire quale miglior profumo di nicchia italiano Fundamental di Rubini, un progetto a cui credo molto e che mi ha permesso di intraprendere un percorso di ricerca unico.
Infine i miei complimenti vanno a tutti i vincitori delle altre categorie, che conosco in gran parte e stimo da molto tempo. L'unica che mi manca è la creatrice britannica Liz Moores con i suoi Papillon Artisanal Perfumes che ora ho una ragione di più per scoprire quanto prima.

Adjiumi Awards 2015

2015 has just ended with foreign webzines going wild for top tens about best and worst. In Italy the most coveted recognition certainly is represented by the Adjiumi Awards that the many perfume lovers of the Adjiumi Forum assign since 2014. Like a jack in the box, today the founder Cristian Cavagna has anticipatedly unveiled the winners of the various categories and the special awards resulting from the mentions that The Boss as adjiumians nicknamed him with love, has collected during the last months together with the moninations.
Big thanks go to Cristian and all the participants for voting La Gardenia nell'Occhiello as best blog of 2015. Since five years it keeps me busy at night (and sometimes also during the weekends) and has grown also on social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so I'm very grateful for this recognition. Moreover if you are in nomination blissful among women like Marika Vecchiattini of Bergamotto e Benzoino, Marina Donato of BeautyMarinaD, Elena Porcelli of Eau de Purcel, Claudia Umeton of Parfums et Beauté Sur Les Pointes and Grace of The Beauty Cove, the honour is even greater!

Further satisfaction was discovering as best Italian niche fragrance Rubini Fundamental, a project I deeply endorsed that allowed me to address a unique research path.
Finally my congratulations go to all the winners in all the categories which I mostly know and esteem since longtime. The only missing one is the english indie perfumer Liz Moores with her Papillon Artisanal Perfumes which now I have one more reason discover as soon as possible.

Alga rossa: sapore di mare

Ottobre è stato un mese di festeggiamenti per gli amici di Adjiumi perché il forum italiano di appassionati della profumeria ha compiuto otto anni: tanti auguri! Avanti sempre così!

Una delle belle iniziative che animano il gruppo è la condivisione delle materie prime più comunemente usate in profumeria per poterle conoscere e approfondire meglio. Dato che non amo arrivare alle feste di compleanno a mani vuote, ho pensato fosse bello condividere con gli amici di Adjiumi una materia prima misteriosa da sentire alla cieca. L'ho chiamata col nomignolo MPX ma ora finalmente posso svelarvela.

La materia prima X è una straordinaria assoluta di alga rossa (la palmaria palmata che vedete qui sopra) della Bretagna di prima qualità che Mane produce mediante estrazione supercritica in anidride carbonica, una materia preziosa (circa 10.000 euro/Kg) e ancora poco usata in profumeria. In purezza è una materia così viscosa, complessa, e brutale che per me è stato amore a primo sniffo. Spero che sia piaciuta anche ai nasi di adjiumi e abbia stuzzicato la loro immaginazione. A giudicare dalle reazioni che ha suscitato di sicuro non li ha lasciati indifferenti.

Red Seaweed: sea relish

October has been a celebration month for the friends of Adjiumi for the italian forum of perfume lovers is now eight: happy birthday! Go on this way!

One of the good pursuits enlivening the group is to share the most common raw materials in perfumery to smell and understand them better. As I don't feel like turning up at birthday parties empty-handed, I thought it was nice to share with the friends from Adjiumi a mystery raw material to be smelled blind. I simply nicknamed it MPX but finally now I can unveil it.

The raw material X is an incredible top quality red seaweed absolute (palmaria palmata, as shown here on the  left) from Brittany Mane obtains through carbon dioxide supercritical fluid extraction, a precious essence (about 10.000 euro/Kg) still rarely used in perfumery. Undiluted it is such a viscous, complex, brutal raw material that I couldn't help but falling in love with it at first sniff. I hope the Adjiumi crew like it as well and got inspired by it. Judging from the reactions it has rised, surely it didn't left them cold.

Candele: istruzioni per l'uso(1/2)

Conoscete qualcosa che faccia più atmosfera di una candela? Dato che le amo alla follia, le brucio tutto l'anno ma è soprattutto nel periodo invernale che le candele entrano nei nostri desideri. Sarà per il calore che regalano, o forse perché se ne trovano per tutti i gusti e per tutte le tasche che sono anche protagoniste dei regali profumati di Natale. Come sceglierle però? Parlandone con gli amici del forum di Adjiumi ho riflettuto su come si distingue una buona candela e su quali siano i trucchi per potercela godere al meglio una volta accesa . Fare una buona candela è più difficile di quanto sembri e coinvolge vari aspetti tecnici che proverò a semplificare. Cosa dobbiamo guardare allora per scegliere una buona candela?

Candles: usage directions (1/2)

Can you think of something that creates atmosphere more than a candle? Since I'm madly in love with them, I burn them all year round but it's mostly in winter that candles fall into our wishlist. Maybe because of the warmth they give, or because there are candles suitable for every taste and wallet they go straight on top of the perfumed Christmas gifts. How to chose them though? Talking about it with my friends on the Adjiumi forum, I thought about what makes a good candle and what are the tips and tricks to enjoy it at best once lit. Making a good candle is more difficult than what we imagine and involves various technical aspects I will try to simplify. So what are che things that we must look for in choosing a candle?
