La seconda parte di questo Scent Diary da Pitti Fragranze parte dall'Italia che continua ad essere terra di talenti brillanti. Prendendo ispirazione dal romanzo di Tomasi di Lampedusa Il gattopardo portato al grande schermo da Luchino Visconti, l'ultima creazione del profumiere Antonio Alessandria Gattopardo ritrae l'animo nobile della Sicilia in chiaroscuro con una luminosa ondata di geranio, fico e whiskey contrapposti all'opulenza di un patchouli vellutato intessuto dall'oro di cera d'api, iris, cacao ed una scia golosa di pasta di mandorle. Spruzzate, chiudete gli occhi e giurerete anche voi di essere stati ospiti dell'imperioso Don Fabrizio, Principe di Salina.

The second part of my Scent Diary from Pitti Fragranze lands to Italy that continues to bring forth brilliant talent.Taking inspiration from Tomasi di Lampedusa novel The Leopard put on screen by Luchino Visconti, perfumer Antonio Alessandria’s latest addition Gattopardo portrays the Sicilian noble soul in chiaroscuro with a bright load of geranium, fig and whiskey set against the opulence of velvety patchouli gilded in beeswax, iris, cocoa and a luscious Sicilian almond pastry trail. Spray, close your eyes and you swear you were a guest of the imperious Don Fabrizio, Prince of Salina.

La passione per i profumi nell'era dei social network ha i suoi vantaggi: puoi imparare facilmente guardando le immagini, leggendo e confrontandoti con persone ben informate da tutto il mondo. Di recente ho avuto la fortuna di entrare in contatto con una donna squisita, la più grande collezionista russa di profumi vintage, nonché collega blogger di aromablog.ru: Ekaterina Khmelevskaya. È stata così generosa da farmi sentire uno dei Guerlain più rari che reca l'etichetta misteriosa Chypre 53.
Il nome in se è alquanto curioso. Gli Champs Elysées sono vicini a Rue Cambon, ma qui non siamo chez Chanel che metteva dei numeri come portafortuna sui flaconi di profumo. Chez Guerlain hanno sempre preferito nomi ispirati alla natura, romantici oppure esotici come Violette de Madame, Une fleure qui meurt o Shalimar. Allora come mai questo nome?
Molto prima di Le Labo, la mia prima supposizione era che 53 potesse riferirsi al numero degli ingredient utilizzati che significherebbe una composizione abbastanza stilizzata per l'epoca.

The passion for perfumes in the social network era has its advantages: you can easily learn by looking at pictures, reading and discussing with knowledgeable people all over the world. Recently I have been so lucky to get in touch with a lovely woman who's one of the finest Russian vintage perfume collectors and the fellow blogger behind aromablog.ru: Ekaterina Khmelevskaya. She's been so nice to let me smell one of the rarest Guerlain bearing the mystery label Chypre 53.
The name itself is pretty curious. Champs Elysées are close to Rue Cambon, but we're not chez Chanel who put numbers as lucky charm on perfume bottles. Chez Guerlain they always went for nature inspired, romantic or exotic names like Violette de Madame, Une fleure qui meurt or Shalimar. So why this name?
Long time before Le Labo, my first guess was 53 could refer to the number of the ingredient, which would mean a pretty stylized composition for the time.

Smell Festival Estate: siete caldi?

Ci siamo, questo weekend parte la prima edizione di Smell Festival Estate ospitata da Carovigno di Puglia e, visti i recenti tweet illustri dal Salento e le previsioni non posso che citare: "Siete pronti? Siete caldi?". "Anchio".
Peccato che la signora Ciccone sia dovuta ripartire perchè, da grande appassionata di profumi, sono certo avrebbe gradito il ricco calendario che ci attende al Castello Dentice di Frasso fra gli eventi, le bellezze naturali di Torre Guaceto e le gioie della tavola pugliese.

Smell Festival Estate: are you hot?

Here we are, next weekend starts the first edition of Smell Festival Estate guested by Carovigno di Puglia and, given the illustrious recent tweets from Puglia and the meteo, I can't help but quoting: "Siete pronti? Siete caldi?". "Anchio".
Pity Mrs. Ciccone had to leave because, being a well known perfume lover, I'm sure she'd have enjoyed the full agenda waiting for us at Castello Dentice di Frasso with events, natural beauties in Torre Guaceto and the joys of apulian cuisine.
