Happy Easter! - Buona Pasqua!

Buona Pasqua!

Je Reviens, seems to promis Spring in this 1961 advertising from Worth. I say she promises because this year seems we're having a neverending winter. Cold doesn't give up despite it's almost Easter so daffodils haven't yet sprouted. The only narcissus I could smell is Je Reviens, an aldehydic floral created by Worth in 1932 and it's the first fragrance I smelled at Esxence 2013, one of the last to join the catalog of the Osmothèque as points out Emmanuelle Giron while giving me the blotter. At least under my nose I have a spring illusion thanks to an explosion of luminous aldehydes slowly fading into a crisp rose-hyacinth heart featuring a mesmerizing daffodil. Dry floral with an heavenly retro elegance, I was ravished by its earthy, tobaccoish indolic base rounded by musk. Unfortunately I won't find a bottle of it in my chocolate egg but at least I hope I will be able to smell some real daffodils.
Nevertheless there's a surprise inside the chocolate egg for the friends that left a comment in my review of Eau d'Hermès. Dear Marzipan, Puzi and Marcopietro I will send you a sample of the vintage as soon as you send me your address, so you can leave me your impressions about it if you like. Thanks for participating!
For everybody instead I have another surprise, the video of  Campomarzio70's Happy Noseday where you can spot a few scenes from Arpeggi d'Aromi. Happy Easter!

Esxence 2013: stars rain (1)

The star, the one symbolizing the five years of excellence at Esxence, is going down to make space to the everyday's dawn. Slowly all the new launches will head the shelves of the perfume shops where everybody will be able to smell them again with more time and maybe to change the first impressions made surrounded by the euphoric and fast atmosphere of the booths.
Speaking about stars, also this year there are interesting newborn ones in the sky of artistic perfumery. Big trend is confirmed the galaxy of green notes that go from the herbaceous and aromatic notes to the vegetal or cold spicy ones of cardamome and coriander, not to forget the floral ones like magnolia and gardenia. But here we go with the Walk of Fame where shine bright the stars that caught my attention.

I Maestri del Profumo: Edmond Roudnitska (2)

The Masters of Perfume: Edmond Roudnitska (2)
Eau d'Hermès (1951)

"A beautiful perfume is the one which gives us a shock: a sensory one followed by a psychological one" Edmond Roudnitska

As I pointed out in the first part of this monography, Edmond Roudnitska in 70 years left us 17 jewels that allowed him to mark the contemporary olfactory aesthetics. What I cherish as the most precious gem, the absolute masterpiece summarizing all his art is Eau d'Hermès. 1951 for the Hermès house is a revolutionary year: the death of Emile-Maurice Hermès puts an end to the Hermès Frères era during which the brand from saddlery becomes producer of luxury leather goods and accessories even for the Tzar. For the first time in more than a hundred years the company passed out of the blood line under the direction of Emile's son in law Robert Dumas. He immediately wanted to highlight the link with heritage baptizing the passage of the baton with a perfume dedicated to Emile aimed to be the essence of the Hermès elegance. Edmond Roudnitska who found in Robert both a customer and a friend, aknowledged this spirit concocting a perfume exuding class and tradition,  renewed though through his abstract vision of olfactory creation.
