Fragranze 15: Scent Diary #01

Firenze è rinomata per l'arte rinascimentale ma anche per la calura estiva e gli habitué di Pitti Fragranze lo sanno bene. Non quest'anno però dato che i rovesci ed un calo delle temperature improvviso hanno assicurato una temperatura gradevole all'interno della Stazione Leopolda. Anche il vento del mercato del profumo è in continuo cambiamento e questa edizione ne ha mostrato i primi segni. Infatti mentre di solito gli stand sono suddivisi per distributore, l'ultima disposizione era suddivisa per marchio a favore di una maggior chiarezza e agevolezza regalando anche un appeal più internazionale. Da notare, visitatori ed espositori esteri sono cresciuti e Fragranze 15 sarà ricordata come l'edizione Pacifica con un grande riscontro per marchi da Australia, Nuova Zelanda e Giappone. Vediamo assieme il meglio partendo dalla mia selezione per Çafleurebon.

Fragranze 15: Scent Diary #01

Florence is renowned for Renaissance art but also for the heat in summer and regular attendees to Pitti Fragranze know it very well. Not this year though as a sudden temperature dip with downpours kept the Stazione Leopolda interior cool and enjoyable. Also the wind of the perfume market is ever-changing and this edition shown the first signs of this. In fact while usually booths are mostly divided by Italian distributors, the current layout was divided by brand so that everything was clearly displayed, easily accessible and with a more international appeal. Notably, visitors and exhibitors from overseas notably increased and Fragranze 15 will be remembered as the Pacific edition with successful offerings from brands from Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Let's see the best starting from my choices for Çafleurebon.

Esxence 2017: Scent Diary #2

Quando ho sentito parlare di Lilas Exquis e dell'ispirazione che la direttrice artistica Rania Barakat Naim ha suggerito al profumiere Luca Maffei, mi è subito venuta in mente Bettina Graziani in un abito di raso lilla mentre posa a favor di camera col suo bel nasino per aria. Lontano dai soliti fioriti, questo soliflore lilla iperrealistico rende vivida l'immagine dei grappoli di fiori molli di pioggia e fa pensare alla joie de vivre francese. Sostenuto dalle sfumature agresti e cuoiate delle foglie di violetta, non mi sorprenderebbe sentirlo anche indossato dai dandy a caccia di una colonia floreale per l'estate.

Esxence 2017: Scent Diary #2

When I learned first about Lilas Exquis and the inspiration art director Rania Barakat Naim gave to perfumer Luca Maffei, I couldn’t help but thinking to Bettina Graziani in a lilac satin dress posing to the camera with her nose up in the air. Out of the usual flowers, this hyper-realistic lilac soliflore vividly renders blossoms drenched in raindrops and French joie de vivre. Empowered by outdoorsy and leathery facets of violet leaves, I wouldn’t be surprised to smell it also on dandies as a floral summer cologne.

Nove è un numero rivelatore che chiude il cerchio della singola cifra affinché si reincarni in un ciclo a maggior potenziale. La Gardenia nell'Occhiello ha partecipato come web friend a molte edizioni di Esxence - The scent of Excellence e quest'anno dal 23 al 26 marzo ci sarò per condividere con voi qui e attraverso Facebook, Instagram e Twitter le indiscrezioni sui protagonisti e le novità più stuzzicanti in cui l'arte invisibile del profumo si rivelerà.
Gli ingredienti annunciati durante la conferenza stampa presso l'Hotel Principe di Savoia, uno dei più storici Luxury Hotel a cinque stelle di Milano, promettono davvero bene.

La Gardenia nell'Occhiello has attended many editions of Esxence - The Scent of Excellence as a web friend and this year on March 23rd-26th I'm looking forward to share with you here and through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter insights on the people and the exciting news the invisible art of perfume will show us.
The ingredients announced to the public during a press conference at the Principe di Savoia Hotel, one of the oldest Luxury 5 star hotels in Milan, really look promising.

Rahele di Neela Vermeire Creations (B. Duchaufour 2016)

Una cara amica che conduce orgogliosamente una bella profumeria nelle Marche dice sempre che, mentre maneggia e spruzza un flacone di profumo, è come se tenesse fra le mani qualcosa di più di un semplice liquido profumato. C'è il cuore di chi lo ha fatto in ogni bottiglia, e questo è ancora più vero se si parla di Neela Vermeire, la direttrice creative del marchio omonimo. Impossibile pensare alle sue creazioni senza associarle a lei visto che Neela riesce a mettere un po' del suo spirito in ogni fragranza che porta il suo nome.
Condividendo la sua passione per la musica classica, non ho potuto fare a meno di annusare l'ultima creazione in questi giorni in arrivo nei punti vendita, Rahele senza pensare alle tinte pastello degli interni exotici Louis XV che incorniciano in riccioli d'oro moretti coi turbanti, rinoceronti ed elefanti su specchi di madreperla. Delicato eppure opulento come la musica di Jean-Philippe Rameau, il profumo danza come damigelle abbigliate in tessuti a piccoli motivi floreali che sembrano rubati ai decori Moghul.

Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele (B. Duchaufour 2016)

Since it's finally available on the shelves, I am proud to share with you my review appeared the last month on ÇaFleureBon.
A dear friend who proudly runs a beautiful perfume shop always says while holding a perfume bottle, spraying it, she holds in her hands more than a fragrant liquid. The heart of who made it is in every flacon and this is more than truth when speaking of Creative Director Neela Vermeire eponymous brand. One cannot think of her creations and herself as Neela puts a little piece of her soul in every scent that bears her name.
Sharing her passion for classical music, I couldn’t help but smelling her newest and soon to be released perfume Rahele and thinking of pastel tinged Louis XV exotic interiors framing in gold swirls peasants in turban, rhinoceros and elephants over mother of pearl mirrors. Delicate yet opulent like Jean-Philippe Rameau’s music, the perfume dances like damsels dressed in small floral pattern textiles almost stolen from the Moghul ornaments.

Neela Vermeire Creations
Ispirato dai primi esploratori che hanno inaugurato i commerce fra India e Francia durante il regno di Lugi XIV, Rahele edp è la nuova gemma nata dalla collaborazione fra Neela Vermeire ed il maestro profumiere Bertrand Duchaufour ed è di influenza più occidentale delle precedenti fragranze NVC. Immediatamente intriga con un'apertura luminosa di agrumi che esalta le sfaccettature di the verde macchiato latte dell'osmanthus, la colonna floreale del profumo che reinterpreta un altro tema classic degli anni '70. La base è levigata, polverosa con accenni canella e violetta da ciprie barocche che fanno strada all'accordo chypre setoso che mi fa pensare a sari di seta albicocca in casse di legno pronti al salpare per la vecchia Europa.

Inspired by the first explorers starting trades between India and France during Louis XIV kingdom, Rahele edp is the new gem born from the collaboration between Neela Vermeire and master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and is more Western influenced than past NVC scents. It immediately beguiles with a luminous citrus opening that brings out the milk-dashed green tea facets of osmanthus, the blooming pillar of the perfume that reinterprets another 1970s classic theme. The base is smooth, dusted by baroque make-up hints of cinnamon and violet giving way to silky chypre accord making me think of apricot tinged saris in wooden cases ready to be shipped to the old world.

Alcuni profumi colpiscono soprattutto per una materia protagonista al punto che vengono ribattezzati come "il vetiver" o "la rosa". Altri hanno il potere di trasportarci immediatamente in un luogo, una situazione o un particolare stato d'animo. Pochi vanno oltre invadendo visceralmente i sensi: così un profumo diventa colore, superficie e suono vivendo in più dimensioni, riempiendo lo spazio come una scultura. Neela Vermeire è fra quei pochi e, senza lasciarsi indurre in facili tentazioni, ha infilato in pochi anni una personalissima collana di perle olfattive.

Some perfumes get admiration above all exposing a star raw material to the point they are commonly renamed as "the Vetiver" or "the Rose". Other ones have the power to take us immediately to another place, a situation or a state of mind. Few dare one more step deeply trespassing the realm of senses: this way a perfume becomes colour, texture and sound living in multiple dimensions, filling the space like a sculpture. Neela Vermeire is among them and without falling into easy temptations, she has piled up in a few years a personal collection of olfactory gems.

Vi piacciono l'arte ed i profumi? Amate viaggiare? Allora appuntatevi in agenda Synesthesia Project, Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea, Lisbona, dal 30 aprile al 30 maggio 2015.

Amo le sinestesie perché sono potentissime, ti catapultano fisicamente in un'emozione, riesce a congiungerti coi suoi aspetti più viscerali e con quelli più sublimi. Ecco perché mi fa piacere poter segnalare questa iniziativa che unisce la pittura e la profumeria anche se si trova un po' lontano.

Synesthesia Project è una mostra curata da Miguel Matos, critico, esperto di fragranze e contributor di Fragrantica che ha voluto coinvolgere l'artista portoghese Gabriel Garcia in un dialogo dove il pittore lasciandosi penetrare dall'emozione liquida di ciascuna fragranza, ha lasciato fluire le sue impressioni attraverso il colore su tela.

I love synesthesia because it's so powerful, it physically throw you into emotions succeeding to correlate its most visceral aspects to the most sublime ones. That's why it is my pleasure to draw your attention to this event joining painting and perfumery, even if it's far away from Italy.

Synesthesia Project is an exhibition curated by Miguel Matos, critic, fragrance expert and Fragrantica contributor who worked in dialog with the portuguese artist Gabriel Garcia letting him be inspired by the liquid emotion of various fragrances that have been impressed through colours on canvas.

Esxence 2014: pioggia di stelle (3)

Continua la parata di stelle fra le proposte più interessanti sentite a Esxence 2014. Dopo aver colto le rose più belle sbocciate nella primavera milanese, parliamo di quel vento verde che da qualche stagione soffia sulle creazioni più bucoliche e corroboranti.

Porgendomi una touche, Vincent Micotti precisa subito che Sacre du Primtemps è solo uno studio e non un nuovo lancio, una composizione ricca inizialmente pensata come profumo su misura che difficilmente entrerà a far parte della linea. Ispirata al celebre balletto russo composto in Svizzera, come Vincent ricorda da virtuoso del violoncello, questa eau de parfum unisex apre citrica e dissonante di galbano proprio come le prime battute di Stravinskij. Nell'estremo salto dalla testa brillante verso l'ombrosità barbara del vetiver puntato di cuoio russo, la vergine che si immola qui è la rosa di maggio: volteggia in punta di piedi mostrando i suoi colori, dall'acciaio al miele, per poi morire tra le giunchiglie.

Let's go on with the stars parade of the most interesting proposals smelled at Esxence 2014. After picking three beautiful roses bloomed in the milanese spring, let's talk about the green wind blowing since some season on the most bucolic and corroborating creations.

YS-UZAC

Passing me a blotter, Vincent Micotti immediately specifies that Sacre du Primtemps is just a study and not a new launch, a rich composition originally meant to be a bespoke perfume that hardly will become part of the line. Inspired by the famous russian ballet composed in Switzerland as Vincent points out being a cello virtuoso, this unisex eau de parfum opens citric and dissonant just like the first bars written by Stravinskij. In the extreme drop from the initial brightness to the barbaric gloom of vetiver with russian leather hints, the virgin giving her life here is May rose: she twirls tiptoe showing her colours, from steel to honey to die then into the jonquils.

Romanticamente graffiante e modernamente retrò, Rozy eau de parfum è l'ultima creazione di Vero Kern che avvolge la rosa turca in una nuvola sensuale e poudré di sandalo ed heliotropio. Come le altre eau de parfum, il gusto agrodolce del frutto della passione rende questa fragranza ispirata a "La rosa tatuata" di Tennessee Williams del 1955 un classico contemporaneo ricco di glamour e gioia di vivere. Ben più drammatico, Rozy voile d'extrait svela dietro l'aspetto mielato della rosa l'erotismo animale di tuberosa e germogli di ribes nero regalandoci così un'interpretazione intensa e memorabile come quella che valse l'oscar ad Anna Magnani.

Vero.Profumo

Romantically biting and up-to-date retrò, Rozy eau de parfum is Vero Kern's latest creation wrapping turkish rose in a sandalwood and heliotrope sensual powdery cloud. As for the other eau de parfum, the bittersweet tooth of passion fruit makes this fragrance inspired by the 1955 Tennessee Williams movie "The rose tattoo" a contemporary classic full of glamour and joy of live. Far more dramatic, Rozy voile d'extrait unfolds behind the honeyed facets of rose the animal eroticism of tuberose and blackcurrant buds so giving us a memorable and intense interpretation as Anna Magnani's one that won her an Oscar.

Penhaligon's per Meadham Kirchhoff: Tralala (B. Duchaufour 2014)

Il nome di Edward Meadham e Benjamin Kirchhoff suonerà famigliare ai più modaioli di voi. Forse perché la griffe è nata solo nel 2007 oppure perché è venduta soprattutto nel Regno Unito, io non avevo mai sentito parlare di loro prima (e questo significa che non seguo più la moda come un tempo) così ho provveduto ad un aggiornamento. Mi è bastato però guardare alcune immagini delle loro passerelle per entrare nel loro mondo kitsch e scanzonato che mischia ispirazioni passate e presenti con una mano ben precisa perché, come dicono loro, “Non abbiamo una cifra stilistica, ma piuttosto una calligrafia. Amiamo raccontare storie in modi diversi”. Uno dei modi diversi in cui amano raccontare storie è attraverso i profumi al punto che, dopo aver profumato alcune passerelle con Hammam Bouquet, Cornoubia ed altri classici Penhaligon's hanno scelto scrivere il loro racconto olfattivo assieme a Bertrand Duchaufour.

Penhaligon's for Meadham Kirchhoff: Tralala (B. Duchaufour 2013)

The name of Edward Meadham e Benjamin Kirchhoff will sound familiar to the fashion junkies among you. Maybe because it's a brand enstablished only in 2007 or because it's mainly sold in the UK, I never heard about them before (this also means now I don't follow fashion as I used to) so I thought I needed an update. A glance to some outfits from their catwalks though sufficed to me to enter their kitsch and unconventional world mixing inspirations from present and past with a well defined touch because as they say, “We do not have a signature but rather a handwriting. We like to tell stories in different ways”. One of the different ways they like to use telling stories is through perfumes as they shown scenting some catwalks with Hammam Bouquet, Cornoubia and other Penhaligon's classics, so they chose to write their own olfactory novel together with Bertrand Duchaufour.
