Datemi una colonia che non sia la classica colonia agrumata. La vorrei più moderna, con un tocco verde, aromatico ma non troppo maschile. Insomma dovrebbe rendere la freschezza femminile di una cascata di petali e l'eleganza scattante di una giacca di lino.
Questi erano i confini entro cui pensavo nel 2015 a cosa far sentire ai partecipanti di Serial Classic, il ciclo di workshop in cui affianco fragranze storiche che hanno dato vita o reso celebri le varie famiglie olfattive alle reinterpretazioni dello stesso tema oggigiorno.
Non era certo facile trovare una incarnazione contemporanea degli esperidati aromatici, famiglia nata con Green Water di Jacques Fath.
Durante l'incontro la formula originale ha lasciato tutti a bocca aperta: la raffinatezza mentolata di questa eau givrée è ancora così attuale che alcuni mi hanno chiesto se fosse ancora in vendita. Sembrava quasi che chez Jacques Fath la direttrice creativa Rania Naim Barakat ci stesse ascoltando: pochi mesi dopo il riposizionamento del marchio ha riportato Green Water al suo splendore.

Give me a cologne that's not the classic citrus cologne. I'd like it more modern, with a green, aromatic touch but not too butch. Well, it should render the feminine freshness of a petals fall and the flawlessness of a sleek linen jacket.
These were my references in 2015 while thinking what to let people smell during Serial Classic, my workshops about historical or famous fragrances that started or made popular the various olfactory families compared to nowadays interpretations of the same theme.
It ain't easy for sure to find a contemporary embodiment for aromatic hesperides, a family started by Jacques Fath's Green Water.
During the session the original formulation knocked everybody's socks off: the minty refinement of this eau givrée still smells so up-to-date they immediately asked whether it's still available. It almost looks like chez Jacques Fath the creative director Rania Barakat Naim was listening to us: a few months later a major brand repositioning brought back Green Water to its former glory.

Molto tempo fa, ho iniziato a scrivere di fragranze ma non su queste parine. Allora c'erano pochissimi webzine legati alla cultura del profumo. Poi, mentre mi prendevo una pausa per cercare di tenere a galla la mia vita in un mare di cambiamenti, il web profumato è letteralmente esploso. Le voci erano sempre di più, eppure quella a cui correvo avido di conoscenza, quella che sentivo più vicina per sensibilità e che poi è stata un incentivo ad aprire questo blog è stala la sapientissima voce di Octavian Sever Coifan.
Se è vero che i sistemi che si influenzano possono entrare in risonanza, sicuramente ho ricevuto molti stimoli e vibrazioni positive da lui pur non essendoci mai incontrati. Sapere che anche solo in piccola parte sono stato uno stimolo per lui mi lusinga molto ed è con piacere che vi invito, se sarete a Norimberga questo mese, a scoprire SPIRAL Parfum Sculpture "Le Temps Rouge".

Long time ago, I started writing about fragrances but it wasn't here. Back in time, there were few webzines speaking about perfume culture. Then, while I was taking a hiatus trying to keep up my life in a sea of changes, the perfumed web literally boomed. There were more and more voices, yet the one I was eager to read in search of knowledge, the one I felt closer to my sensibility and that later pushed me to open this blog was the voice of the very knowledgeable Octavian Sever Coifan.
If it is true that systems influencing each other can originate resonance, surely I got many stimuli and positive vibes from him even if we never met. I was totally flattered to know I've been a stimulus for him even in in tiny amounts, so it's a big pleasure to me to invite you passing by Nürnberg in November, to discover SPIRAL Parfum Sculpture "Le Temps Rouge".

La fine della seconda guerra mondiale è stata un momento atteso da tutti, vincitori e vinti. Il conflitto aveva provato duramente l'Europa, straziata da un'angoscia ben rappresentata in opere come Guernica. Per contro alla fine della guerra la profumeria avrebbe risposto alla voglia di serenità e di ottimismo con grande slancio tornando a guardare anche oltreoceano. Perfino una strega esperta in feroci veleni à la Bandit come Germaine Cellier avrebbe creato il suo jus più luminoso per Nina Ricci, la violetta assolata di Coeur-Joie. Era il momento di nomi speranzosi come Wishing (esprimendo un desiderio) di Avon, Air Nouveau (aria nuova) di Houbigant e tanti altri. La maison Jean Patou rispose con L'Heure Attendue, l'ora attesa, che sorprende scegliendo percorsi inattesi invece della leggerezza.

The end of WWII was an awaited moment by both winners and vanquished. The conflict heavily tried the Europe, torn apart by the angst well pictured in artworks like Guernica. On the other hand when the war ended perfumery would have fed the longing for serenity and optimism with great energy also glancing again overseas. Even a sorceress skilled in ferocoius poisons à la Bandit like Germaine Cellier would have concocted her brightest juice for Nina Ricci, Coeur-Joie's sunny violet. It's time for hopeful names like Avon's Wishing, Air Nouveau (new air) by Houbigant and many others. The house of Jean Patou replied with L'Heure Attendue, the awaited hour surprising with unexpected paths instead of going for lightness.

Nel 1991 Parfums de Rosine riapparve sotto i portici del Palais Royal ma l'unico legame col passato era la R maiuscola presa dal flacone della Rose de Rosine. Non era rimasta traccia delle fragranze e dell'estetica avant-garde di Poiret, così Marie Helene Rogeon decise di riscrivere la storia di Rosine con creazioni contemporanee declinate sul tema della rosa. Solo di recente la storia del marchio è stata riscoperta grazie all'impegno dell'Osmothèque, come ha sottolineato Jean-Claude Ellena facendo gli onori di casa. Rapito dalla vivacità del racconto di Jean Kerléo, lo seguo a ritroso nel tempo e in un attimo siamo agli anni '70 quando, appena arrivato al quartier generale di Patou presso Saint Ouen, ritrovò un cofanetto di profumi dimenticato da Henri Alméras. Grazie a quello e alle formule che Yuri Gutsatz aveva ottenuto per pura fatalità, ma soprattutto grazie alla passione di Jean Kerléo e Guy Robert da quello scrigno sono affiorati undici dei trentasei tesori di Rosine di cui si conosce l'esistenza.

In 1991 Parfums de Rosine reappeared under the arcades of the Palais Royal but the only heritage from the past was the capital R stolen from the Rose de Rosine flacon. There was nothing left of Poiret avantgarde aesthetics and fragrances, so Marie Helene Rogeon decided to write from scratch a new story for Rosine with contemporary creations based on the rose theme. Only recently the history of the brand has been rediscovered thanks to the Osmothèque activity, as pointed out by Jean-Claude Ellena while welcoming the guests attending the conference.
Enchanted by Jean Kerléo's lively telling, I follow him going back in time and in while we're in the '70s when arriving at the Patou headquarter in Saint Ouen, he found a box with perfumes left by Henri Alméras. Thanks to this and to the formulas that Yuri Gutsatz got by chance long time before, but above all thanks to Jean Kerléo and Guy Robert's commitment, from that case emerged eleven of the thirtysix known Rosine jewels.

Uno dei vantaggi dell'essere amico dell'Osmothèque Versailles è quello di ricevere gli inviti a partecipare alle interessanti conferenze che organizza durante l'anno. Purtroppo dall'Italia non è facile andarci e spesso finisco per mangiarmi le mani come quest'inverno quando ho letto che Jean Kerléo avrebbe tenuto una conferenza sui misteriosi Parfums de Rosine. Alcune occasioni capitano una volta nella vita, altre per fortuna ti danno una seconda possibilità. Infatti il Museo della Profumeria di Grasse ha reso possibile che questo incontro si ripetesse per l'inaugurazione della mostra Paul Poiret (1879-1944) Couturier Parfumeur. Stavolta non potevo lasciarmela scappare, così giovedì scorso sono partito in compagnia della mia amica Nyneve, altra temeraria appassionata di profumi. Direzione Grasse, La Gardenia va Chez Poiret!

One of the advantages of being a friend of the Osmothèque Versailles is they send you invitations to take part to the interesting conferences they give during the year. Unfortunately it's not easy to join them coming from Italy, and often I end up kicking my ass like this winter when I read Jean Kerléo would have given a lecture about the mysterious Parfums de Rosine. Some occasions happen once in a lifetime, luckily others give you a second chance. In fact the Grasse Museum of Perfumery has made this event possible again to coincide with the opening of the exibition Paul Poiret (1879-1944) Couturier Parfumeur. This time I couldn't miss it, so the last Thursday I left together with my friend Nyneve, another reckless fragrance lover. Direction Grasse, La Gardenia goes Chez Poiret!
